Drug Diversion

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) nearly a quarter of the 2.1 billion prescriptions written a year were used for something other than a medical reason.  Although teenagers make up the largest percentage of drug abusers, everyone is susceptible to prescription abuse.   This inappropriate use of prescription drugs is called drug diversion and costs insurers over $72 billion a year. Of the 2.1 billion prescriptions the American Medical Association estimates are written annually, nearly 25 percent of those were used by approximately 52 million Americans for something other than a medical reason.

Stolen Identity and IRS Fraud

When Contego Services Group employee, Tammy Reib, a single mother of three waited over seven hours on a Monday to turn in her  ID theft affidavit with an IRS worker in Plantation, her boss Linda Webb, leading fraud expert, AKA The Fraud Dog knew she had to do something!  On February 3rd, The Fraud Dog called in The Sun Sentinel to help shed light to the devastating situation so many South Floridians have encountered since tax season began .  For most it has been a double whammy: stolen identify with no refund in sight for months and uncooperative local IRS offices turning away victims.

Unemployment Fraud Among D.C. Employees

Nearly 90 D.C. city employees were suspended Monday and face potential firing and prosecution for receiving unemployment benefits while holding their city jobs, District officials said. In addition, about 40 former city workers cashed unemployment checks they were not entitled to and also face sanctions. In all, the city estimates it has paid out as much as $800,000 in unemployment benefits to working city employees since 2009.
